Clif,

I am not a professional clarinest, as I just started again to practice the
last several months.

I am 53 and i have all of my books from the Rubank series to Henderson
Method, H. Klose Method books and so on.

I would the clarinet checkout, as keys can get bent so easy as I handle my
clarinet very well. As the bentness is so minimal but has a effort.

I had professional lessons as a kid from 1963 to 1973 with one of the finest
teachers in the washington D C area, Paul Eberly who was a first clarinetess
for the National Ballet symphony in DC.

here are some things that he wrote in my books and stressed that could help.

sit on the edge of your chair, and have good straight posture, head up.

clarinet close to your body, fingers close to the keys, the right thumb
should be on the thumb rest between the knuckle and nail base, as that is a
tough one, till you get used to it. Today they do have pads you can put on
the thumb rest.

ALso, do you have enough mouthpiece in the mouth, is the mouthpiece good?
buffet has a terrible mouthpiece as I use a Van doren 2RV as I beleive that
is no longer made, but there are lots of good mouthpieces on the market.

type of reed and strenght.

You say you are rubbing the keys? again, the above should help.

also, are your fingers covering the holes properly.

My teacher told me we have natural pads on our finger tips. Take a look,
as that pad on the tips should be covering the holes.

Lips, good pressure, firm and upper tucked in.

I hope this helps as again I am just passing along what I learned 40 years
ago that I still do today in playing.

mike
