I've used this kind of product (not the same, as I don't live in US),
under floating wood floors, in an scenery with a concert piano, and it
works great. It's easier to install (even yourself), and has only a
fraction of weight than lead.

By the way, Jacob, I visited your web site, and if you play bass
clarinet, or anything else with a peg, you may consider using a high
density rubber under it, to reduce impact transmition.

And, despite the fact that everything absorve even a tiny portion of
vibration, thus attenuating sound, with the sound meter in your hand, if
you don't cover every inch with rugs and drapes (and better two or more
layers), you are doing acoustic treatment, not isolation.

You (not your neightbour) hear less intensity because you don't have
reflections, you eliminate the sound *returning* from walls, floor and
ceiling, but you don't eliminate the sound *going through it*.

From the reading however, it was unclear if this would actually be effective to just lay under a rug above a hardwood floor. The recommended usage was to either lay it under the floor or under carpeting. Any thoughts?
