I am teaching a bassoon student (!!) who used plastic reeds. The
sound and response are significantly inferior to even the cheapest
wooden reeds, even if the plastic ones last longer and are impervious
to weather changes. The student eventually went to wooden reeds and
has not reverted to plastic ones.
