I like Bear Woodson's attitude about playing gorgeous music with the
instruments you have. I have heard Bach, for example, arranged for
everything from over-stuffed symphony orchestra to unaccompanied nose flute,
and it is always fundamentally Bach... and it always gives pleasure,
especially to the people who perform it. I would be thrilled to have my
music arranged and played by people who loved it enough to bring it to life
with the means at hand. This in no way diminishes the dedication and the
hard work of musicians who strive to present composers' intentions as close
as possible to the original performance standards. There is room for all.
