These many comments are very helpful, but I am still left
with some thoughts.

1) The Gran Partitta is a gorgeous work, worthy of many
performances all over the world, but Basset Horns are still
Rare and Expensive. If many Editions have Ossia Versions
of the Basset Horn Parts transcribed to 2 Bb Soprano
Clarinets, what do they do about those Lowest Basset Horn
Notes? Play them up an octave?

2) It just seems to me that Bb Bass Clarinet Players get
too little Good Literature, but to have both Basset Horn
Parts transcribed to Bb Bass Clarinets would be practical
these days. Is that done? (Perhaps they merely use Bb
Soprano Clarinet transcriptions, with the lowest notes given
as Ossia Notes?)

3) If, as Mr. Van Cott suggests, that the First Basset
Horn Part doesn't sound below Concert G at the bottom of
the Bass Clef, then it would work well on an Alto E-Flat
Clarinet. They get far less Good Literature than the Bb Bass
Clarinet Players. Are there Editions that let E-Flat Alto
Clarinetists play this gem?

4) So what do I do about the Wookie Mirror? (The eyes on
it keep following me around the room, even through the coke-
bottle-thick glasses.)
