I play a low C for all the reasons Dan says....but I know some folks who actually prefer the low Eb. Why? Facility (those three extra notes on the low C make the instrument slightly unweildy), and Timbre (I guess the Eb sounds nicer at that particular range - meaning at the low Eb).....who knows, just want to say that there are those that prefer the low Eb.
