Janice,
Check to see if your left hand thumb is pointing to about 2 o'clock and that
your thumb overlaps the tip of the register key, so that only a slight bend
in the joint results in opening the key.
You might be shifting the thumb up and down in order to open the key now and
it could cause other fingers to move unnecessarily.

Subject: [kl] problem with one finger

Hi everyone,

I have been taking clarinet lessons for the past6 months and am having a
problem with the middle finger on the lefthand which involuntarily moves off
the hole when I play, especiallywhen I play the higher register and use the
octave key. I have thinfingers and a coordination problem. I don't feel
that particular fingermove as the movement is so slight. The other fingers
are okay.

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Thank you,
