I was going to mention the Buffet. I played a beautiful Buffet Alto once -
gorgeous thing. Better laid out than the Buffet Basset horn too. At least
for my hands.

But a very different instrument from the basset horn.

Buffet make a very nice alto clarinet. I have had mine for 10+ years.
The problem is that they are even more expensive than a Buffet low C
bass clarinet.
