Quintet of the Americas Presents Concerts in Queens on November 15, 17
and 18 as Part of Latin American Cultural Week

New York, NY – The Quintet of the Americas will present four concerts on
three different days at venues throughout Queens as part of Latin
American Cultural Week (http://www.pamar.org/lacwnyc/calendar.asp). All
of these concerts are free and open to the public.

Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 2:00PM at Flushing Library Auditorium,
41-17 Main Street in Flushing, Queens.

Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Catholic Charities Bayside
Senior Center, 221-15 Horace Harding Boulevard in Bayside, Queens.

Monday, November 17, 2008 at 1 PM at Community Mediation Services; 89-64
163rd Street in Jamaica, Queens.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 11 AM at the Salvation Army Center, 86-07
35th Avenue, Jackson Heights, Queens. Special guest will be composer
Michael Colina.

Selections for these programs will include the Queens premiere of
Michael Colina's Baion de Bayo, Astor Piazzolla's Teme de Maria, El
Diablo Suelto by Venezuela’s Heraclio Fernandez, Lecuona's La comparsa,
Serenata by Carlos Franzetti and music from the Quintet's Dancing in
Colombia CD.

The November 15 and 17 concerts are presented in partnership with the
Latin American Culture Center of Queens. The November 18 concert is
presented in partnership with the Salvation Army Center of Jackson

These programs are part of the Quintet of the Americas Chamber Music
America Residency Partnership Program. The Quintet of the Americas is a
2008-09 recipient of a CMA Residency Partnership Program Grant. Funding
has been provided by the JPMorgan Chase Residency Grant Program, a
program of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation, and the Chamber Music America
Residency Endowment Fund.

Members of Quintet of the Americas are Sato Moughalian, flute; Matt
Sullivan, oboe; Edward Gilmore, clarinet; Barbara Oldham, horn; and
Laura Koepke, bassoon. Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, the Quintet
has specialized in bringing music form Latin America to audiences in the
United States since its arrival in New York in 1979. The group has
enjoyed an international career that has taken them to concert halls
throughout the Americas, the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe. Two time
recipients of ASCAP-Chamber Music America Awards for Adventuresome
Programming, the Quintet's repertoire represents works from composers
with a wide-range of aesthetic viewpoints. Their latest CDs are Karel
Husa: Recollections on New World, Dancing in Colombia and Sounds of
Brazil on the MSR label. The Quintet is a 2008-09 recipient of a CMA
Residency Partnership Program Grant. They are also currently in
residence in The Department of Music and Performing Arts in The
Steinhardt School at New York University. Visit their website at

of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation
