I'm just read the large flurry of e-mails responding to Tony's comment, and
I was disappointed that no one asked the question on my mind. Tony, please,
could you explain what you mean by the "presentation model of what being a
musician is"? And what the better model is that you presumably have in mind?
I'm sure you have something enlightening to say on the subject, but I can't
guess what it is from such a short-hand reference.
It doesn't make much difference to me (an American) if you think the crappy
"presentation model" is typical for Americans. I can't do much about "the
fundamental underpinnings of our musical culture", but I'm always hoping to
improve my own understanding of what's involved in making music come alive.

It's all part of this CRAP, PRESENTATION MODEL of what being a
musician is. VERY American in style.
