The big 5 is a myth. It was hardly true when it was relevant, and it
hasn't been a standard in American orchestras for over 30
years. There are many great orchestras in the US, and the "old 5"
are neither the oldest, highest-paid, or (especially) the best 5
orchestras. Even limiting it to 5 is absurd.
