But what I want to understand is - *why* do you view that as so
"dumb?" Let us assume for a moment that there is equal value in
bringing fresh perspective to an ensemble as there is to retaining
institutional knowledge. In the course of say, a twenty year tenure -
I think it's safe to assume there is *at least* one other person who
is equal or more capable than the person currently holding the
position. For, how could a point in time audition twenty years prior
be a comparison against the talent that exists today? What about the
"next Drucker" being denied from practicing his art at the highest
level, because by the time a major position opened for him, his prime
had passed and he was teaching a studio of 30, with his playing
skills declining to he could meet his day to day monetary needs? Is
this "unfairness" "less unfair" than someone who has had a chance
stepping aside to let another have a chance?
