Interesting thread. I don't know about the "whys" but in my 45+ years of
playing I keep migrating back to crystal. The sound (imo) is more mellow and
controlled in the altissimo especially. Of course there are many factors in
how a mouthpiece sounds and maybe the material has nothing to do with it. I
just know what works for me. (And apparently it does work as I have received
more than one comment on the wonderful tone that results when playing these
mouthpieces...).

The downside - they don't "project" quite as loudly (my perception) - so if
I want to really "stand out over the band", (which I rarely find the need to
do) I move to one of the more standard mouthpieces I have laying around.
