We would like to inform you on the International Crusell Clarinet =20

clarinetists and others concerned will be aware of our competition.

PROGRAMME AND RULES OF THE INTERNATIONAL CRUSELL CLARINET COMPETITION

The Crusell Society is sponsoring an International Clarinet =20
Competition in Uusikaupunki, Finland from 25th to 30th of July, 2009. =20
Candidates must be born in 1979 or later. Competition is open for all =20
citizens of all countries.

Preliminary round:
After completing the attached application form send it to the =20
competition headquarters so it will arrive by the 9th of April 2009. =20
In addition to the application form each candidate must present the =20
following:
1)CV (Curriculum Vitae) and a recent photo
2)Copy of birth certificate or passport
3)CD including Claude Debussy?s Rhapsody for clarinet and piano (not =20
with orchestra!) played by the candidate. The name of the participant =20
is to be marked clearly on the CD.
4)A receipt of the paid registration fee of 35 ?. The fee must be paid =20

The entrance fee is non-refundable.

Candidates accepted for the competition will be informed on 8th of May =20
2009 at latest, after which the accepted participants for the =20
competition will be announced on Crusell Week website. The Organizing =20
Committee select competitors on the basis of the CD and registration =20
information. A maximum of 40 participants will be accepted to the =20
competition.

The competitors will perform in the order drawn by lot by the =20
Organizing Committee. The order of the presentation will remain the =20
same throughout the whole competition. The jury will select a suitable =20
number of competitors for the following round, however max. 10 =20
competitors to the semi-final round and max. 4 competitors to the =20
final round.
The participants will be informed in the acceptance letter on which day they
will play in the first round. A day before the first round, the =20
participants will have a rehearsal with the pianist. The participants =20
who will be playing on the first day of the first round, Saturday 25 =20
July, as according to a drawing, are to arrive to Uusikaupunki on 23 =20
July in the evening at the latest due to the accompaniment rehearsal =20
of the following day. The participants who will be playing on the =20
second day of the first round, Sunday 26 of July, as according to a =20
drawing, are to arrive to Uusikaupunki on 24 of July in the evening at =20
the latest due to the accompaniment rehearsal of the following day. =20
This concerns participants who will use the accompanist provided by =20
the festival organisers.
All participants are to register at the competition venue or to inform =20
the organisers on their arrival at the latest 24.7.2009, 8 p.m.

THE COMPETITION REPERTOIRE:
In the following repertoire list the editions in the first and =20
semi-final round are recommendations. In the final round the named =20
editions must be used!
The First round on Sat 25th and Sun 26th of July
1. One of the following pieces for solo clarinet:
- Carter: Gra (Boosey & Hawkes)
- Denisov: Solo Sonata (Breitkopf & H=E4rtel)
- Hakola: Diamond Street (Warner/Chappel)
- Fagerlund: Flow (FIMIC Finnish Music Information Centre)
- Mantovani: Bug (United Music Publishers)
2. The other one of the following pieces for clarinet and piano:
- Berg: 4 St=FCcke (Universal)
- Salonen: Nachtlieder (Fazer)
3. One of the following pieces for clarinet and piano:
- Rossini: Introduction, theme and variations (Universal)
- Bassi (Giampieri): Fantasy on Rigoletto (Ricordi)
- Weber: Concertino (Henle)
- Crusell: Air Suedois (Fazer)
The Semi-final round on Tue 28th of July
1. Lintinen: New piece for clarinet and piano
(music will be send by the competition organization with the =20
acceptance letter)
2. One of the following sonatas for clarinet and piano:
- Brahms: Sonata F minor (Henle)
- Brahms: Sonata E-flat major (Henle)
- Reger: Sonata A-flat major (Bote&Bock)
- Reger: Sonata F-sharp minor (Bote&Bock)
In the first round and in the semi-final round the participant is =20
allowed to play the pieces in the order of his/her choice.
The Final round on Thu 30th of July
1. One of the following concertos by B.H. Crusell:
- E-flat major op.1 (Universal)
- F minor op.5 (Universal)
- B-flat major op.11 (Kuntzelman)
The concerto in the final round is to be played from memory.
In the final round the concerto will be played with a chamber =20
orchestra Virtuosi di Kuhmo and conductor.

The prizes are tax free. Additional merit awards may be given. The =20
jury reserves the right to award the prizes differently. The winner =20
will also be invited to perform during Crusell Week 2010.

The competition rounds will be open to the general public. The =20
organizers reserve the right to have the performances recorded, =20
filmed, broadcasted, videotaped or televised without any remuneration =20
to the competitors.
10=A7
The Organizing Committee will make a pianist available to each =20
competitor for the first and semi-final round and orchestra for the =20
final round. The organizers will appoint a pianist for each competitor =20
and determine the rehearsal times. A competitor may optionally bring =20
their own pianist at their own expense.

The prizes will be awarded at a Prize Giving Ceremony following the =20
final round.
12=A7
The jury reserves the right to exclude a competitor who doesn?t accept =20
these rules.
