Oh rats. That question has turned the passage into an earworm that's going
to drive me crazy until someone answers the question. I think Mozart
borrowed the melody line there from one of his own operas. I can't place
it, but I'm hearing the melody in my head as a fairly thin orchestral
accompaniment (a few stringed instruments, not the whole gang) for a duet
between a soprano and a tenor where, right after that passage, the full
orchestra and the chorus join in. Or I could be totally wrong and I should
probably just shut up now....
