<blush> Thank you Nancy - but I hasten to say that almost all I know about
the GP I have learned from Dan Leeson and later from David Whitwell. And our
performance with you and Tom Pulawksi and others was indeed a delight. My
only regret was that the conductor, while very receptive to ideas, did not
have the security to let us improvise and embellish. That was restricted to
back stage jamming with Tom and me on clarinet and basset horn!
I've tracked down and read most of Dan's articles on the GP and it was
indeed a sweat even though I have access to pretty much any library I want.
I've already encouraged Dan directly to gather these and his lifetime
reflections into a book.

There are
many groups which require a conductor for this work, and frankly, many of
the
conductors don't know how to bring out the "Mozartiness" of the work. After
having
Keith Bowen in our midst last spring during our third try at this supreme
work of
aural lovliness, we finally began to get it right. We had our difficulties,
but it
was a much better performance (probably partly owing to the fact that I
didn't have
to play 2nd clarinet!).
