Can anyone tell me what these instruments are? Look here:

At 6 minutes 10 seconds into the tape I hear "clarinets", but look a
bit longer and is it keyless basset horns that are being played?

Also, just after that, what are the very skinny looking trombones,
and why is one played with a rod to move the slide?
