I played a mid-level LeBlanc through high school which served my
purposes fine. I feel though, that a new mouthpiece will provide a
much better experience than just a new horn depending on what he is
using now. If he is using the stock mouthpiece that the instrument
came with, take him (and hopefully his teacher if he has one) and go
try out several. A good step up mouthpiece is the Vandoren M13. I
agree with Charles and Gary though that we need more information in
order to give an informed answer.
