Claudia asked about gum surgery.

I had my wisdom teeth extracted some 20+ years ago, including the lower left
tooth, which was upside down, wrapped around the jaw bone. It had to be
broken up and taken out from under the jaw line. I was playing within a week
or so. Other than a numbness in the lower lip, caused by a bruising of the
mandibular nerve during the surgery, I had no complications. That numbness
still is present today, especially on cold days. Fortunately it doesn't
affect my playing.
