I agree with you about Amati contras but not all Adlers are bad. You
may have been unlucky. I have come across at least one GOOD Amati
bassoon (and a lot of poor ones, but good ones exist). I heard
superb playing on an Amati while in Prague from Bedrich Kamenik; if I
could play that well on his Amati I'd buy it (I play a1300 series
Adler, which I preferred to two more expensive Heckels and have never
wished to change}. My contra is a Monnig and It is fine too although
I would like a Mollenhauer.
The Amati G clarinet I have is a good instrument at a reasonable (not
cheap) price. Try a few and see.
