True, but hard rubber is MUCH less sensitive to such changes. That
is one of the reasons hard rubber and plastic are preferred for
outdoor use (that and the fact that wood can be DAMAGED by the
changes brought on by harsh environments). Hard rubber has long been
the choice for instruments used in tropical areas for this reason.
