Dear list,

Sorry to bring this up again, but research on the Woodwind board
didn't yield the answers I was looking for.

I'm going to be performing (and perhaps recording) the Poulenc Sonata
after not having performed it in many years. In the meantime, I have
encountered numerous new editions (what are they up to now - 30?) of
this work, often with many counter examples of articulation and pitch changes.

I see through the BB that Tony Pay and Alessandro Carbonare have
well-researched opinions on the matter. One link refers one to a
page (now dead) where Alessandro cites his opinions of what's right
and wrong. Tony says that the original 1963 edition is closest to
what Poulenc wants, and several people say that it's not that
important which notes you play - it's all Poulenc in the end. Tony
mentions having a copy of the corrected manuscript (wouldn't it be
great if it could be posted on line like the Keggelstatt is. (can't
find the link now)

I have a 1983 (9th) edition, and it is quite different from the
current edition. I don't know if mine is closer to the 1963 or
further away. Anyone know?

Thanks,

Sean Osborn
