One suggestion would be that if you live close enough to a large music store
with a good stock of woodwind supplies, to haul your sax to the store and
sit and try out what they have available. If you like a softer reed, you
probably need an open mouthpiece, so if you're currently playing on an open
mouthpiece, the reed needs to stay 2-1/2 to 3; on a closed mouthpiece, try going
up a notch or two. I use a Bonade inverted on all my ligature instruments.
They reproduce sound well and are relatively inexpensive. I dislike a
neoprene (hard, rubberized fabric) ligatures because they don't tighten down well
enough and tend to stretch, and I have a personal dislike for the sound they
reproduce. Large music stores -- Weiner and Woodwind & Brasswind have trial
policies and once you have found suggestions from current Mark VI players, you
should be able to use the mouthpiece trial to try them out.

The "Saxgourmet" sight I believe is a list such as the Klarinet. You might
have some broader input from their site because sax people probably outweigh
clarinet people and you should run into some good information.

My favorite ligature would be the Winslow, but the only place I've been able
to find them is on Ebay and the bids go way up, although it wouldn't be a
bad idea to search for them and at least see what they look like. Unless you
know someone who has the ligature and you are able to try one (finding someone
who uses them, tho, could be considered in the category of "acts of god").

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

Lee Ann
