What mouthpiece are you using? A modern small-bore - which includes any
Selmer C* - will play quite sharp. These saxophones were designed to play
in tune with mouthpieces that have a *much* larger internal volume.
If you can't find a vintage Buescher or similar mouthpiece, the closest
equivalent would be a new Rascher.
These are great horns. Even folks outside the Rascher cult get great sounds
out of them - Arthur Blythe plays on a True-Tone.
I have a 1936 Buescher Aristocrat alto (with the 01 neck) that has been
redone by Gayle at www.vintagesax.com; with a proper vintage mouthpiece,
it's the most in-tune alto I have ever played. Pretty too.
