I have a 20-year-old set of Funk & Wagnall's Encyclopedia taking up shelf
space in my office. It isn't of interest to any librarian I've asked - too
old and F&W wasn't a high-quality reference even when it was new (they were
sold a volume per week at the local supermarket). Newer CD-ROM- and
online-based resources make anything this old, whether it once was good or
not, pretty much useless to a modern public or school library. Does anyone
have any knowledge of any organization that can make use of something like
this? I've heard that there are international charities that collect old
books and donate them to libraries and schools in developing countries that
don't have the resources we take for granted, but no one who has mentioned
this to me has a specific organization name to suggest.

It seems somehow awkward to just put them out for the next curbside trash
pickup, but I badly need the shelf space for other things.

TIA,

Karl
