You're invited to attend the third annual Claremont Clarinet Festival,
which returns to the Pomona College campus June 9-15, presenting
fourteen clarinetists in three public concerts of blockbusters of the
clarinet repertoire.

Young artists from Europe and South America will join with adult chamber
musicians from Northern California and performance graduates of San
Francisco Conservatory, UCLA, CSULB, CSULA, and Arizona State for a week
of masterclasses, study and performance with clarinet coach/founder
Margaret Thornhill, and guests Gary Gray, professor of clarinet at UCLA
and Michele Zukofsky, principal clarinetist of the LA Philharmonic.

Concerts take place June 13, 14,15 in Bridges Hall of Music and Lyman
Hall at Pomona College. Three-concert passes are: $30 general; $20
student/sr. Single ticket prices are: $15 general;$10 student/senior and

The concerts are:

Friday, June 13, 8 PM, “Clarinet Masterworks.” Mabel Bridges Hall of
Music, Pomona College.

Clarinet soloists Vicente Ortiz, Tanitra Flenaugh, Gayl Lohse, Lori
Musicant Koch, Wendy Mazon, Sarkis Hardy, David Beech, Vanisha Evans,
Veronica Felipe, Alex Sramek, and Jonathan Szin will perform works by
Szalowski, Arnold, Hindemith, Benjamin, Reger, Brahms, Debussy,
Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Bernstein, Weber, and more. Twyla Meyer and Tania
Fleisher, pianists.

Saturday, June 14, 8PM “New Music for Clarinet Ensembles.”Mabel Bridges
Hall of Music, Pomona College.

USA premiere of Mike Curtis’ “Global Tour” for clarinet choir. Also, “Il
Torneo” by Paul Harvey; “Rhosymedre” by Vaughn Williams and “Molly on
the Shore” by Percy Grainger (arranged Matt Johnston);“La Revoltosa”
Overture by Chapi, arranged Ortiz; Villa-Lobos "Bachianas Brasilieras"
arranged John Krance for clarinet choir with Ariadne Greif, soprano,
quartets by Uhl and Tomasi, and a trio by Sean Osborn. Lori Musicant
Koch and Margaret Thornhill, conductors. David Sucik and Don Gross,
guest clarinetists.

Sunday, June 15 --2:30 PM The “Clarinet Marathon.” Lyman Hall, Thatcher
Music Building, Pomona College, 340 N. College Avenue.

Festival participants perform solo clarinet works by Brahms, Reger,
Martinu, Schubert, Martino, Cooke , Menendez, Sergei Slonimsky, Stanford
and Poulenc, with pianist Twyla Meyer.
