Personally I don't think that used parts should be rented at all. If
somebody is paying top dollar for a musical rental, they should get new
parts every time.
But that's just my opinion.

btw - when the Corigliano Clarinet Concerto first came out (and for several
years) it was available for Rental only through Schirmer.

Yes - and the reason makes sense if you think about it. If parts are ruined
though overuse, more need to be bought. If, in essence, they are used as
masters for rough copies, the masters will last longer but the publisher
will therefore sell fewer.

You are therefore doing economic damage copying parts for any reason.
