I recently heard Gnarly Buttons with Sean Osborn playing it and feel that
it's a great work. He played the heck out of it, and the work itself is
quite good.
Understanding what the composers intentions were also enhanced my
appreciation of it.
I'm not much of a contemporary music fan (typically ClarFest new music I
can't tolerate much of it), but love the Corigliano Concerto, and other
works which to me aren't way, way out and Gnarly Buttons - I don't feel is
that far out there.

Cool piece

Very late comment...I agree with Sean, the quality of the performance
makes a huge difference in appreciation of the piece. And, I got a =
chance
to play his Chamber Concerto (cl/bass cl part). Terrific piece! And an
opportunity I'll never forget...
