Just to remind I am talking about the Buffet 1193 and
1183 bass clarinets. Other bass clarinets may be
different.

Yes, I enlarged the neck register tube hole, but the
question is how much. Very small increments have a big
effect, so it is not so simple.

I removed the original tube, and made and put a new
much bigger threaded tube. Then I made threaded tubes
to fit in several sizes so I can try. There are some
big and some small differences between each size and
each has its own compromises. The original tube has a
3mm hole. I chose a 3.5mm hole as the best. The
compromise is mostly between upper clarion (E to C)
and (mostly lower) altisimo, with some very specific
differences and compromises.

Someone could simply enlarge the hole but maybe they
won't prefer the bigger hole (though I doubt it, at
least a little bigger). The original Buffet tube can
be enlarged to 3.4mm and maybe in some cases 3.5mm
because of the wall thickness. The soldering can break
from drilling, so be aware that this could happen.
Only drill by hand!

Recently another local player came to see if he wants
to enlarge the hole on his bass clarinet. He said it
was especially good to be able to try all the sizes
and compare, so that's obiously an advantage. But if
someone decides to enlarge the original hole (which is
what I've done at first) then it's not the end of the
world and it's possible to reduce the size again.
