I have been using a flat shoelace with one tip=20
cut off since 1980. Works perfectly for me and I=20
do notice more resonance in the lowest=20
register. It has NEVER slipped or loosened. I=20
bought 4 just in case it wore out or frayed- but=20
I am still using the original!! All that is=20
necessary is to wash it off every now and=20
then. I found the idea in "The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing" by David=
Pino.
