It has to be the "right" type of string. I don't know what the right =
type is
but some strings will stretch others may separate under tension. Another
consideration is the mouthpiece itself. My Hammerschmidt has about 12
grouves around the outside so the string will not slip up the taper. I =
have
been using a Lyuben nylon? with the 4 dots in the underside for 40 years
with satisfactory results. I can adjust the reed response somewhat by
tightening the lower and upper screws to different tensions. I find =
reeds
last longer with this ligature than with any type of banding mechanism =
that
contacts the entire bark area of the cane.
