Reading Simon and Sean's moving comments and their touching explanation of
Adams' intent in the writing of Gnarly Buttons causes me to realize that, in
hearing only one movement, I really am not in any position to voice an
opinion on the piece as a whole. While how I felt about that single movement
is not essentially altered by their poignant explanation of the work's
origin, it certainly causes me to realize that I will have to listen to the
entire work before any further statements about the piece.

And it was particularly meaningful to be told that the work centers on
Adams' father and his final illness, because my mother had and passed away
from that ugly, vicious disease, too.

Thanks Sean and Simon, for clarifying what was to me only part of an
experience. It may make no difference in the end, but it was very thoughtful
of you both to have commented in the ways that you did. Perhaps if I had
known that background before hearing the single movement, it might have
produced a different reaction in me.
