Just want to say an overwhelming "thank you" to everyone here! I heard from
about 20 of you kind people via direct replies to my post or separate
emails. I have now comprised a list of many books, links, and pieces to
guide me (and to guide my online purchase coming up this weekend!). It
looks like Rubank (which I think I actually used back in the '70s), Rose's
32 Etudes, and Baermann were the most frequent recommendations but I can't
stop thinking about all the other books, too. And the titles available from
Gary's site are amazing...things I never heard of or even imagined are out
there now (to really learn to play jazz clarinet would be a dream...I played
alto sax in jazz band in HS so have never really tried jazz on the clarinet
at all).

I looked through my books (I only have half a dozen here with me, rest are
at the "homestead" in Maine!)...I own the Rose 32 Etudes and Baermann 3 and
two of Hite's Melodious and Progressive Studies books...all look good but
there's so much dark ink in there! Holy cow...can't they throw in a few
dotted halfnotes once in a while! ;) So I will back off a bit and see what
happens.

And don't even mention reeds...I think I used La Voz and Vandoren (?) years
ago...I bought some new ones the other day and the store only carried
Rico...will have to experiment a bit eventually.

And, Michael, thanks for the link to the community bands...I found one about
20 minutes away which takes all levels--no auditions. Their season runs
Sept to June so I'll probably not even attempt to join now...I'll wait and
see if I end up following through on my playing and--if so--hook up with
them next Fall.

Again, thanks so much for your time and knowledge, everyone...what a great
group! I truly appreciate your assistance.

All the best,
Tammy

PS: If anyone wants/needs a copy of the list I made of all the suggestions
please email me and I will email you the document as an attachment.
