I could be wrong (and usually am), but I believe the dramatic top note on Goodman's "Sing, Sing, Sing" solo was Altissimo B (A concert).
Speaking of altissimo players in jazz, the late Kenny Davern frequently drifted upwards of the C. I attended a Jazz Festival in which Davern played the "Back Home in Indiana" tune in concert Ab, and ended on the clarinet's ultra high F above the altissimo C. I might add, that his altissimo work was powerful, tone centered, and with vibrato.
Regards.
Harold

... explain .... ? :-)
Talking of Benny Goodman-related stuff, I think he's got the earliest
high C on a recording, though I've never actually heard the tune (I
think it's "Sing, sing, sing"?).
