Yamaha and Buffet have both successfully employed a cut-out in the bell. It
makes those 12ths (E-B, F-C) much closer. To my way of thinking much more
successful than Buffet's attempt on the Tosca, as all that achieves is to
make the difference between low E and F larger, so the scale is more uneven.
It also helps with the tuning of the clarion B and C, as they are then not
so sharp as on the more traditional R13 design.
