I saw a youtube film of Sabine Meyer playing the Mozart clarinet quintet, K.
581. Her playing remains at an extraordinarily high level. Just wonderful.
A joy to hear her play.

She used a basset clarinet for the Mozart quintet, and I was anxious to hear
what she would do with the instrument.

Unlike the concerto, K. 622, where there are several editions created to
exploit the basset clarinet's low notes, that is not the case of the
clarinet quintet. I could be wrong, but I don't know of a single
publication of K. 581 that deals with the issues of the basset clarinet's
low note potential. It may be all left up to the individual player.

The bottom line is that it appeared to me that there was very little
exploitation of the b.c.'s low notes (though I only heard one movement, the
first). Now that is a piece of work to be done by someone. Prepare an
edition of K. 581 that incorporates passages that exploit the low notes of
the instrument.
