For me, finger peeling is not part of my technique for this. By the time I
hit 4th space E, most fingers are off, and the rest is controlled by the
interior shape of the mouth and throat.

The previous suggestion to practise dropping high C down to an F without
changing fingering is a good one. Also try whistling this to get the feel
for what the mouth should be doing (this, incidentally, is also good
practice for anyone having trouble hitting these upper clarion notes easily,
although I have found that most people who have this trouble are the ones
who can't whistle.)

I think, however, that you will need to keep experimenting to find what
combination of things will work for you. And make sure you use plenty of
air.
