The Nonett for Winds and Strings by Franz Lachner is available for
download and your playing pleasure.

It comprises the third of three nonetts (Brahms, Spohr and Lachner)
for which I hope beyond hope will turn out to be a successful
gathering of live players on a date yet to be determined next
July. I'll probably never be able to pull it off, but it is nice to
dream. My references tell me that Mozart suffered the same problem
with his Sinfonia Concertante so I guess that I'm in good company.

The Lachner movements 1,2 and 4 are about as joyful as one could
hope. The 3rd Adagio movement is sombre and almost threatening with
its own special appeal.
