=0A=0AHoward, would you like to see what these clarinets look like? Many p=
eople are confused when they first hear of these different clarinets. =0A=
=0AMartin appears to be playing the Buffet Basset Clarinet. Here's a photog=
raph from the Buffet exhibit of the 2006 NAMM of the Buffet Prestige Basset=
Clarinet (in A, of course) on the left, the Basset Horn (in F, looking rou=
ghly like an alto clarinet) on the right. Both play to low C in their respe=
ctive keys. Interestingly, the instrument in the center is another Basset H=
orn, this one only playing to low Eb and therefore not as long as it's comp=
anion to the right. It does not have the upturned metal bell. The first Bas=
set Horn part in the Mozart K361 does not require the 'basset' notes, so th=
is horn could be used for that. I believe all three horns are in Buffet's c=
atalogue, though I would assume they don't sell many of the center one. =0A=
