A basset horn is pitched in F (historically also in G) and is thus in =
the
tenor voice. It was the first attempt at a bass instrument in the =
clarinet
family.
An A clarinet with an extension to low C (as for the Mozart concerto and
quintet, the Sussmayr concerto, and in Bb the aria Parto, Parto from
Clemenza di Tito) is known as a basset clarinet.

It appears that he is playing on a basset horn in A. Or an A clarinet =
with
a low C extension (I don=92t know the difference).
In fact, what is a basset horn, aside from the low C extension?
