I am not quite sure what you mean by a partial, but if you mean a bridge,
then yes this is fine. I have a bridge for my upper front seven teeth. It
actually made playing easier. Get a dentist who is interested in and
sympathetic to musicians' problems.

Subject: [kl] dental issues

Hi Everyone,

I don't post very often, but I have been reading every digest for
years now... I have had a lot of dental work done in the past (family
history of bad teeth :-/ ) and now I am faced with a difficult situation:
due to receding gums, my lower front four teeth have become slightly
loosened; just a very small wiggle so far, but I do notice a little pain
when I play a show that is mainly clarinet (I am a doubler, and oboe and
flute don't put pressure on the teeth and sax puts only a little...)
Here's my question: does anyone know, preferably from first or
secondhand experience, if I could continue to play the same if I were to
get a partial? Or (shuddering at the thought of paying $7,000) possibly
implants? A partial would be the easiest solution, depending on how it
would effect my playing; the implants are very expensive (insurance
considers them to be cosmetic :-/ ) and require surgery and six months to
heal properly...
I am quite nervous about this, since I make my living playing, so any
and all advice is welcome. Thank you!
