I normally don't pimp projects that I'm involved with but this one is just
too good to not mention...

I've been on tour mixing the sound for a tour with Dawn Upshaw and a group
whose core players are the members of Eighth Blackbird. Last weekend, we
were in Richmond, VA and Durham, NC. The performances were nothing short of
amazing.

The program for this tour is:

STEPHEN HARTKE: Meanwhile - Incidental music to imaginary puppet plays
GEORGE CRUMB: Vox Balaenae
OSVALDO GOLIJOV: Ayre

The Hartke is a new work that was premiered by Eighth Blackbird only a few
months back. The Crumb is (of course) the classic work in a performance
that should not be missed- they are doing it as it should be with blue
lighting, amplification, masks and the music memorized.

Lastly, Ayre is another work that if you don't know it, you should...
Osvaldo Golijov is one of the big names in new music. Clarinetists should
know his piece that was recorded by the Kronos Quartet with David Krakauer
called "The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind." Written to be a
companion piece to the Berio Folk Songs on the CD that Dawn has released on
DG, it is of similar content, but taken to the next level. This is what
happens when classical music meets folk songs and rocking electronic music.
It is very exciting with moments of fantastic beauty (the movement for
guitar and soprano comes to mind).

There are three performances left. Friday evening, the location is Benaroya
Hall in Seattle. Saturday, Cal Performances at UC Berkeley, Zellerbach
Auditorium, and lastly Monday at the new Segerstrom Hall at the Orange
County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, CA (Southern California).

Oh well... Enough glowing. I'm looking forward to hearing this one 3 more
times.
