Keith, if you are going Wurlitzer, think about basset horns. Years ago, I
played on a Wurlitzer b.h., which had been made in a French system. It was
exquisite. The instrument itself had the look of a Cadillac Sedan. The
intonation was sensational. Never played on one quite like it. What turned
me off was the mouthpiece, which was equivalent to that of an alto clarinet.
Further, at that time I had two Selmer basset horns, one of which was
Rosario Mazzeo's instrument, and I liked them. But it was the Wurlitzer
that I really lusted after.

Excuse the commercial ... if anyone is interested I am selling two items on
ebay. Item 250212572018 is a superb pair of Leblanc Concerto clarinets,
overhauled (rebuilt, really) by Steve Fox. The reason for sale is that i
have changed to Wurlitzer Schmid Reform clarinets. Item 250212515152 is a
restored (minimally) and nicely playable Jacques Albert high-pitch Bb
cocuswood clarinet, with original wooden mouthpiece, from about 1890.
