I find that advice a bit odd. I mean, if you went to him with a
specific complaint, like "there's too much resistance with mouthpiece
A", or "the twelfths are too wide with mouthpiece B", it would make some
sense. But without a specific complaint, I'm not sure why you would
want to go on a barrel hunt. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
