I thank Glenn for bringing up the Times article, and I erred in my posting
when I said that Drucker would retire at the end of this season. It is
really the end of the next season, 2008-9.

It will be a long time before anyone playing any instrument has a longer
tenure than Drucker's 60 years. To no small degree, Drucker and I grew up in
parallel universes, he being two years older than me. And there was never a
single time in the last 60 years that I ever heard him play a bad note or a
bad passage. I don't think he was capable of missing a note, so prodigious
was his technique. I've always thought of him as a 16-cylinder car with no
music that he had to play requiring more than about 10 cylinders.
