Maybe there is (a missing flat), but I rather like it as A followed
by Ab. Maybe it is an acquired taste.

My G. Henle Verlag Trio (opus 38) shows Ab on measures 9 and 11. I
never sequenced the trio because I had already sequenced the Opus 20
Septet, the original form of the same piece. My Wiener
Philharmoischer Verlag Septet score shows an A in 9 and an Ab in
11. I just played back the computer synthesis both ways and an Ab
followed by an Ab sounds okay, but I've rather gotten used to the
septet version. How does the CD sound?

It reminds me of basking in the sound of the Brahms Quintet at
ClarinetFest this year. One bad note on an arpeggio in the first
section of the first movement (at least one which didn't seem to
fit). Ah, well. Then the repeat began and the Clarinetist played it
the same way. I gasped, "a wrong note. And he did it on purpose!"
to which the woman in front of me turned around and glowered at
me. But to add insult to injury, when I had a chance to look at the
score I couldn't find the spot in order to discover if it had been
something that I changed on playing it through with the computer
after sequencing or if it appeared in the score.

Anyway, I vote for A followed by Ab.

I'm embarrassed to say that my sequencing of Opus 20 was done before
I had learned how to do transpositions so that the Finale file plays
back in tune, so you have to play the MIDI file to hear it. I really
must get back to all of those files one of these days.
