Take a look at bars 55-56 in Verbunkos; also bar 151 in Sebes. Also note
the following from the "Corrected Edition", 2002:

"The clarinet and the violin parts are written so that two instruments each
are required in performance. A violin tuned in 'peasant style' is used at
the beginning of the third movement and a Bb clarinet is needed at the
beginning and end of that movement. The first two movements ant the middle
section of the third are played on the A clarinet. In the first edition an
alternative part transposed entirely for Bb clarinet was provided. This is
not included in the Corrected Edition, as it was not part of the original
concept prepared by the composer and, moreover, the A clarinet is called
upon to play its lowest tone" (FWIW, the editor of the "Corrected Edition"
is Peter Bartok)

That being said, I have a copy of the first edition and it does have a
switch to the A in the middle section of Mvmt 3. Per all of this, it is
clearly incorrect to play this piece all on the Bb, but I concur with a
previous post that I would prefer this played well on a Bb than played badly
on an A.

There *is* no low E in the Clarinet in A part for the Bartok. The lowest
note is a written "F"
So, no extension necessary.

And, if the situation were different, there is always the spectre of"full
Boehm," with its low E-flat.
