it's totally unacceptable and also not possible due to the low end of
the range. also if the violinist does not use two violins, you are
not performing bartok contrasts, you are playing some other piece.

You'll also have a hell of a time actually fingering some of that
stuff without both.

There are some parts in the third movement which are written for the
Bb that some play on the A to make it easier (A# C E A# over and over
again vs A B D# B). Additionally a few people play the first page on
the Bb instead of the A to avoid the Bb to left hand Db on those
arpeggios - but this is not possible outside of the studio because
there is no real place to change instruments.
