It possibly is true, but as I have not tried a C mouthpiece it would be just
speculation. I would also speculate that while a mouthpiece change would
affect the overall intonation, eg the tendency to sharpness in the higher
part of the range, it would not affect individual notes that are different
from their neighbors. The main problem with the Amati IMO is that the F#/C#
hole is about 0.5 mm too high up the instrument! I have heard of similar
problems with Buffet, also.

I have only compared the Amati with the Buffet E11, and my preference (and
those of several others at my music camp) was for the Amati. I also think it
is better made.

Please note, however, that Amati have changed design in the last two years
(thanks to a new clarinetist employee in charge of these instruments) so if
your experience is older than this it will be different.

I have not tried the Forte but it sounds an interesting prospect.

Still, I believe it's accurate to say that ideally a C clarinet would
use a different mouthpiece. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the
intonation problems associated with the instruments stem from the fact
that a regular Bb mouthpiece is slightly too large (think of using a Bb
mouthpiece on an Eb instrument for a much more exaggerated example!).

I remember Walter G. pointing out that of course, technically speaking,
the A clarinet would best be served by a uniquely tailored mouthpiece too...
