I think that you guys may be leaving out the Forte' C as an option too.
Our list of satisfied owners includes several satisfied symphony principal
players, opera principal clarinetists, and numerous speciality players of
jazz, klezmer, and Greek music - all interested in a good quality
instrument below the astronomical price of the premium Big 4 offerings. The
price is a little more than the Amati but I think that the quality and
attention to intonation problems, historically associated with this
instrument have been fixed and it is an equal or better contender in the
price range under $5K to the Buffet and LeBlanc instruments. I agree that
the choice of mouthpiece significantly influences certain aspects of
intonation and my choice is a customized Gennusa mouthpiece with a little
harder reed than normally played and a tighter embouchure in order to get
the altissimo notes closer in tune. The C clarinet in my hands at least
takes a little practice and attention, more so than a new Bb or A clarinet,
to get used to the particular characteristics of the horn. It is a fun
instrument to play but never should be taken for granted if you want the
best sound and intonation.

BTW - Woodwind and Brasswind has recently picked up this instrument and
while free shipping is in effect it is a $700.00 instrument !!
